Helen Bonham carter once said; “I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art.” We couldn't agree more. Homemaking is an art and often your home will reflect your personal style. This week we are looking at how the catwalk strolls into your home. Inspiration can come from anywhere, so we are rounding up some fashion trends that we have seen in our favourite interiors. Where does your interior inspiration come from?
1. Clean and Crisp
You’ve bought out your crisp white shirt, you’re looking fabulous and you are feeling great. Why limit this sensation to the streets? Bring it home to the sheets! This crisp look (and feeling) is easy to recreate in the bedroom with white walls, a freshly made bed and clutter free floors. Top tip for this look... less is more!
2. Cool Co-Ord
Its time to co-ordinate your home! This look is all about choosing an accent pattern and being bold with it. By threading this pattern through the room you create a cohesive theme in a fun way. You could match your wallpaper to the cushions, the sofa to the lampshade, or the curtains to the footstool. Think co-ord suit.. and make sure you love the print!
3. Calm and Cosy
The days are getting shorter and the air is getting colder.. winter is fast approaching, and it's time to dig out your cosiest, chic jumpers. We want your home to feel just as warm, totally embracing the new season. Styling your home for winter comes down to two words; soft furnishings. Pile your sofa and bed with pillows and throws to add instant comfort and winter curb appeal. Mood lighting will make all the difference so opt for lamps, instead of harsh spot lights and go for a warm tone bulb. Candles are the perfect mood-setter, so go for a rich wintery scent and light your candles as the evenings get darker.
4. Vintage/Contemporary Hybrid
Vintage looks are being bought back in style with a contemporary twist. In your home, try to mix some vintage statement pieces with modern accessories, for example a beautiful old writers desk for your laptop. You can raid your parents home for family furniture, check ebay for some gems or go to an antiques fair. To really merge the styles, which works so well in fashion, why not get a classic style sofa or bed frame reupholstered with a modern fabric?
