Fashion and interiors go hand in hand. As New York wraps up, and London ramps up, we're giving you the rundown of the top New York Fashion Week trends that will be invading your interiors, as well as your wardrobe. Welcome to the Fashion & Interiors Edit: NYFW Edition.
Macro Trend: Red Revolution.
We saw one major trend fire up the NY runways for FW17, with most collections showing at least one look starring this bold trend. We are of course talking about firetruck-Red. This trend is likely to stick with us for a long time, permeating every sweater, jacket, dress and even trouser in your closet this coming season...
All Red Everything
In interiors, this is likely to come to in the form of large and bold pops of colour throughout the home. Think: large, bright furnishings, or small sections of red wall, in a hallway, or bathroom. You can also achieve this look with a red rug or large painting.
In terms of personal style, red will be the new black.
Red & Blue
Although we predict London to be very different, New York is floating back towards colour-block monochrome. This time, however, we’re looking to the bright side of the colour palette. Electric blue is also making a major comeback in a new supporting role.
How does this work for your interiors? Trust us when we say that, somehow - It.Just.Works. It's a colour combination that feels so wrong, but looks so right! Invest in some blue chairs, or pillows, and pair these with a red lampshade. Don’t be afraid of trying to make these 'go' together, they will complement each other effortlessly.
Red & Black
From Calvin Klein to Jason Wu, black and red is the new sexy combo. For your closet, think of it as the new colour scheme for your evening looks. For your home, think of it as the bold statement that will elevate any room. We’re talking black walls, or large dark paintings, with pops of red in the form of small furnishings. If you don’t want to commit too much, mix and match some red and black cushions!
Micro Trend: Velveteen Velour
The velvet trend started to make its way down the runway last season, as light fabrics were ditched for their rich, embroidered and embellished counterparts. Although less dominant than our beloved Red trend, soft and bright velvets are our chosen micro-trend from NYFW.
You can inject this opulent trend into your home in a million different ways. Think: a powder blue velvet couch (or pouffe) to add depth and texture. Alternatively, think smaller. Add some warmth and luxury with bright velvet cushions.
Top Tip: Mustard is one of our go-to colours at the moment, and green velvet is about to make a major comeback, as Pantone's colour of the year starts ramping up and seeping into furnishings everywhere.
