Homewings Shari is back with some great ideas on the favourite accessory in Desert Modernism, an iconic design style that keeps on giving.

Okay, so now that you have your brightly coloured, woven cushions, tan leathers and warm wooden furniture how do you then take your Desert Modernism look to the next level? We’re talking about pro Desert Modernism here. If you don’t know what I’m going on about, hop to it and take a look at my first post on Desert Modernism.

For the rest of you, let’s take a closer look at these inspirational, yummy images.

Notice a common theme? Beyond the overall look that is…

Big hint, it’s on the walls. Just look at those beautiful wall hangings! The technique is called Macrame. These were huge in the seventies, but like fashion, design can be cyclical and well, here we are again. It’s a lovely way to add a bit of interest to your wall and the handicraft quality will certainly up your Desert Modernism ante. Macrame has also found a second life in cushion covers - a fabulous way to bring a beach-y vibe to any city flat.

Now, there are a couple of ways to get one of these babies yourself. For those of you who are crafty and adventurous, there are a wealth of how-to’s online which you can look into.

Otherwise, if you’re short on time and ready to invest, you can also check out Etsy for a really great selection by independent artists.
